We have put together this guide to walk you through each measurement. It should take around 10 minutes — a flexible tape measure and a friend to help will make it straightforward.
Upper Body
Measure from the base of the collar at the back of your neck, straight down the spine, to where you want the jacket to finish.
Tip: A classic jacket length finishes around the curve of the seat.Measure straight across the back from the bony edge of one shoulder to the bony edge of the other, following the natural shoulder line.
Tip: Have a friend take this — it cannot be done accurately on yourself.Measure around the fullest part of your chest, with the tape under your arms and flat across your shoulder blades. Keep it horizontal.
Tip: Keep your arms relaxed at your sides and breathe normally.Measure around the fullest part of your midsection / stomach, keeping the tape horizontal all the way around.
Tip: Do not suck in — stand naturally. With your arm slightly bent, measure from the edge of your shoulder, down the outside of the arm, to the wrist bone.
Tip: Measure the arm you write with.Measure around the fullest part of your upper arm, with the arm relaxed at your side.
Tip: Do not flex.Measure around your wrist bone, where a watch would sit.
Tip: Keep the tape snug, not tight.Lower Body
Measured on the OUTSIDE of the leg — from the top of the waistband straight down the outer seam to where you want the trouser to finish at the ankle.
Tip: Use a pair of trousers you already like for reference.Measure around your waist where you actually wear your trousers — this may be higher or lower than your natural waist.
Tip: Measure over a light shirt, not over a belt.Measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat, keeping the tape horizontal.
Tip: Stand with your feet together.Measure around the fullest part of your thigh, just below where it meets the body.
Tip: Keep the tape snug but not tight.Measured from the front of the waistband, down through the crotch, and back up to the waistband at the back — the full U-shape.
Tip: Easiest measured while seated on a firm chair, or taken from a well-fitting pair of trousers laid flat.Measure around the back of your upper leg at the fullest part of the hamstring.
Tip: Keep the tape horizontal.Measure around the fullest part of your calf.
Tip: Stand naturally with weight evenly distributed.General Tips
